Misspelled Names

The Sherry Magie (Portrait) is the highest profile misspelling in the T206 set and the only subject corrected during production. The spelling error was discovered during the first printing of the Piedmont 150 back and corrected with the proper spelling "Magee." The quick correction limited the number of the errors that were distributed, making this variation one of the more difficult and costly for those trying to complete the 524-subject set.

Other subjects were printed with their name misspelled but were not corrected during production.

Shaded players have another pose in the set with their name correctly spelled.

Incorrect Team Designation

During the first production run of print group 3 (350-460) the Joe Doyle (Hands Above Head) player caption incorrectly identified him as a member of the N.Y. Nat'l team. Doyle's correct team designation was N.Y. Amer., and this mistake was caught quickly and the "Nat'l" was removed, leaving just the "N.Y." The number of errors that were printed and distributed were few, with only eight authentic examples known to exist. This makes the Doyle error variation the scarcest card in the T206 set of 524.

Roy Ellam is another player with an incorrect team designation. His card caption identifies him as playing for Nashville, but during the time the southern league players were selected and printed for the set he played for Birmingham. Ellam would play for Nashville, but it wouldn't be until 1916, long after the T206 set's production had ceased. Unlike Doyle, this error never was corrected.
